Pew Charitable Trust, Research on Tribal Co Management of Federal Lands
Year
2021-2022
In a 2+ year collaboration with the Native Nations Institute and Saghani Consulting we developed an assessment of the current state of co-management of federal lands with tribes. This research identified opportunities, challenges, and policy pathways to ensure that tribes have a meaningful seat at the table with this significant change in policy. This work was presented to Biden Administration officials in the Department of Interior and the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2022.
Eddie Bauer, Cultural Appropriation and Awareness
Year
2021-2022
In 2021 and 2022, we worked with Eddie Bauer to address past culturally appropriated designs and to design new internal processes to appropriately collaborate with native designers. We collaborated with EB on the development of a number of future products that employed indigenous artists and designers.
Hipcamp, Pilot Program to Incorporate Indigenous Knowledge
Year
2020-2021
in 2020 and 2021, we worked with Hipcamp to incorporate indigenous knowledge and education for individual land owners as part of their broader stewardship program. Private land in the United States presents a unique opportunity to create wildlife corridors and habitats for native plants and animals. We supported Hipcamp’s efforts by deepening education and reosources for individual land owners and the company more broadly on cultural resources, tribes, and indigenous knowledge.
Rural Utah Project, Get Out the Vote
Year
2020
In 2020, we partnered with the Rural Utah Project to create the Rural Arizona Project which aimed to increase Native voter turn out in the general election. Instead of investing in a conventional digital advertising program, we chose instead to invest in individuals and content creators who were already organizing within their own communities, in their own voices. We demonstrated our program’s impact and provided a template for how this program can be replicated for campaigns across the United States.
